How will the competition be judged this year? Below are the guidelines, mechanics, and criteria for judging of the Ala Eh! Festival 2011 Dance Parade and Float Competition.

DANCE PARADE COMPETITION

1. Concept or theme for performance, costume and props must depict the culture, values and tradition of the municipality of origin
2. The composition of the contingent must be within the minimum of thirty (30) and a maximum of seventy (70) dancers including musicians, prop bearer and chaperon, age limit is 13 -15 years of age.
3. Assembly time for all participants (dancers and float) is 6:30 AM at Calaca Academy, Calaca, Batangas
4. Parade will start at 8:30 a.m traversing the Admana Street., turning left to San Rafael Street leading to and will end at Marasigan Street.
5. There will be two (2) judging areas: at the corner of San Rafael and Marasigan Streets and at the viewing deck along Marasigan Street.
6. Parade dance steps of participants should be continuous all throughout the parade.
7. There will be one common beat for the parade dance. Each group will be given a CD of the beat or may use the CD provided in the previous year.
8. The contingents will assemble at the event center for costume inspection. The judges will approach the group.
9. The performance stage is at the front of the big stage right of the Municipal building. The general rehearsal may be coordinated to Mr. Rene Avendano for scheduling.
10. Each performance shall be limited to FIVE (5) MINUTES excluding the entrance and exit. The five minute period begins as soon as participants of a contingent are properly set up in front of the judging stage and ends as soon as the first participant leaves the judging area.
11. For every five (5) seconds in excess of allowable time a penalty of one (1) shall be deducted from the total score
12. The beat for the 5 minutes dancing will depend to the group. No vocal is allowed. The CD of the beat of their choice must reach the sound system operator before the start of the dance parade. Group may bring their own band of at least 5 musicians.
13. The use of flammable materials such as pyrotechnics as part of the performance is strictly prohibited. Props used in the parade or in the performance should not exceed 14ft in height. Contingents are prohibited from performing dance movements that unduly endanger the safety of dancers.
14. Registration is deemed complete upon submission of background description for the dance, which shall be final and not subject to change.
15. The decision of the judges shall be final and unappealable.

FLOAT COMPETITION

1. Concept or theme for the float must depict Filipino culture, values and tradition.
2. Contingents have the option of constructing their floats at the designated areas to be identified by the local government of Calaca.
3. The maximum height of float is 13ft.; maximum width is 3.5 meters; and the maximum length is 6 meters. For every foot in excess of the maximum specifications, a penalty of one (1) point shall be deducted from the total score of each judge.
4. Participation to the Float Competition will be based upon receipt of complete registration form by the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office along with the description of the float design. Failure to send the description of the float entry deems the registration incomplete.
5. The decision of the judges shall be final and unappealable.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. All entries/registration can be sent through email at batangastourism@yahoo.com on or before September 30, 2011.
2. To determine which contingents goes first in the parade, a draw lots for the parade sequence will be done on October 28, 2011 at the Office of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office at 10 AM in the morning.
